OUR STORY

From the 1940s to today, a story of passion, tradition, and research.

The Taverna artisan workshop was officially established in 1945, when Francesco Taverna, after working from a very young age with his father Vincenzo, courageously and with an entrepreneurial spirit, decided to start a business processing dried fruit and orange peel. In the 1950s, in Taurianova, a town in the province of Reggio Calabria located in the Gioia Tauro Plain, Francesco Taverna acquired Caffè Crucitti, a Sicilian-style establishment. This marked the birth of Bar Pasticceria Taverna, the beginning of a fascinating journey that remains a splendid reality today. It is the fruit of combining local production innovations with the tradition of Sicilian pastry-making, a blend Francesco Taverna skillfully achieved before passing the torch to his sons Fabio and Giorgio. Over the decades, production expanded to include artisanal nougat, a sweet that traditionally seals the Christmas festivities in Calabria, and to which the LE CHICCHE di Francesco Taverna brand was attributed.

An ancient tradition of love for all that is genuine and high-quality

ART AND DEDICATION

With the same passion as Francesco Taverna, his sons continue the excellence of the pastry art.

Francesco Taverna always embraced a fundamental concept: to make excellent pastries, delicious gelato, and superb nougat, you need the highest quality raw ingredients and skilled laboratory operators who can create and diversify with imagination. Thanks to this wealth of experience, LE CHICCHE nougat and nougat bites have become over the years the flagship product, the pride of a high-level business known nationwide. Today, the family business is run by Francesco’s sons with the same passion, artistry, and dedication as their father. Every innovation and product diversification, always tied to the local territory, aims to improve product quality without ever neglecting the lessons learned from tradition.
